Project Description:As an On-Call Landscape Architect for the Contra Costa Community College District, Vallier Design Associates, Inc. (VDA) worked with Interactive Resources to design the new Student Services Center at Contra Costa College. The Center functions as an anchor for student life providing support services for new and returning
students such as counseling, academic planning and job placement. The project addressed issues of landscape, circulation, image and aesthetics at the Campus’s western entry. VDA’s landscape plan establishes a strong, legible node at the entry from which students can comfortably navigate the campus. The resulting project integrates a dynamic plaza, circulation paths and landscape with
the existing campus character.
Additionally, VDA provided design of both exterior and interior building signage. The exterior building signage compliments the Campus’s mid-century modern aesthetic. The interior signage provides an attractive and legible wayfi nding system throughout the building so that students and staff can fi nd their way around with ease. Signage design was based on the Contra Costa College Site and Signage Standards Manual, also developed by VDA.
VDA provided comprehensive landscape architectural services for this project including conceptual design, contruction documentartion with review and approval from the California Division of State Architect, construction administration and
community facilitation.
